Coronavirus claims its 3rd death in India

On March 17, 2020 India reported its third coronavirus death. The patient was 64-year-old man and was being treated in Mumbai’s Kasturba hospital. Maharashtra has the maximum number of coronavirus patients in India, at 39. The first two deaths occurred in Karnataka and New Delhi, respectively.

Now, the number of deaths globally has crossed 7,150. Of the 180,000 confirmed cases globally, almost 80,000 patients have reportedly recovered from the infection.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India rose to 236 on Friday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India remains at Stage 2 of the outbreak, which means the spread is through local transmission, which can be traced. The health ministry said there is no evidence of community transmission yet, in which it is hard to tell how the patient contracted the virus.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday announced a 24-hour shutdown from midnight on Saturday and said that it will be observed as 'coronavirus awareness day', The Times of India reported.
